Washington County Community Corrections, 150 N First Street, Hillsboro, Oregon 97124, U.S.A. Recidivism rates for offenders constantly reflect disappointment. In an effort to reduce the rate of recidivism, the SSRI (selective seroton in reuptake inhibitor) medication paroxetine was attempted with a small group of offenders in a community-based program About half the offenders dropped out after one or two sessions, but 14 completed 3 months of treatment. These had a reduction in depressive and obsessive-conpulsive disorder symptoms, but it is difficult to determine the impact on the total rehabilitation program for the offenders. The implications for further research and clinical work are discussed
