Art Theft in PerspectiveFederal Bureau of Investigation, P. O. Box 709 Portland, Oregon 97207 U.S.A. Art theft has become a significant concern in many countries. This article examines several aspects of the crime, including motives of thieves, problems in collecting theft data, law enforcement response, and security. Multi-jurisdictional investigations have been successful in curtailing some thefts. Concentration on many fronts is necessary to impact on the crime.
